'The terms "flame" and "troll" had emerged from the
 Internet billboards. Flames searched for posts to
 lambaste. They enjoyed publicly, verbally flogging
 strangers. They preyed on the newby and the internerd.
 Trolls laid traps for flames--laying out extremely stupid
 and tasteless posts that would be especially attractive to
 flames. They posted through false addresses so they
 wouldn't get waylaid with return mail and cross-posts, or
 "spammed," and relaxed to watch the fireworks.'
