Gunnar Bittersmann: Geschichtliches und Philosophisches zum Wochenende (Lesetips)

Zwei Leseempfehlungen:

Neben < A > gibt es einen weiteren Artikel, in dem Jeremy Keith die Geschichte des Webs erzählt: As We May Link. Hier mehr aus der Sicht von information architechture (IA).

“When we create websites, it’s all too easy for us to fall into old patterns of behavior and treat our creations as independent self-contained islands lacking in outbound links. But that’s not the way the web works. The sites we build should not be cul-de-sacs for the inquisitive visitors who have found their way to our work by whatever unique trails they have followed.
“We should recognize that when we design and publish information on the humblest homepage or the grandest web app, we are creating connections within a much larger machine of knowledge, a potential Turing machine greater than any memex or calculus racionator.”

Nach dem Lesen stieß ich durch ‘from our featured pieces’ auf den Artikel We Are What We Build von Eric Meyer über Verantwortung im fürs Web, insb. soziale Netzwerke.

“And so the question is, will our future be more like #663399becca or more like #gamergate? Will we see communities work together, or camps tear each other apart? Both will happen, of course, but which will become the norm? Will our societies and we ourselves become more constructive or more destructive?
“Any one of us can and absolutely should make such choices for ourselves, but there’s more at work here than individual choice. How we build our systems of interaction will matter a great deal to the future. If we build them in a way that encourages positive collaboration and discourages destructive attacks, that will influence anyone who uses—and, more importantly, grows up with—those systems.
“And so those who build the systems of interaction have a unique responsibility, because what they allow and forbid defines them. As Derek Powazek has said, ‘What you tolerate is what you are.’ ”

Und noch was Geschichliches: Adrian Rosellis Artikel Liquid Design for the Web. Von 2001.

“One of the greatest advantages of the web is something that your average dedicated print designer or software developer can’t get their arms around. The idea that it’s a fluid medium, that information can be experienced in as many ways as there are users.”
