> Die Herleitung von __*2b* *cos 45°* = *a*__{: style="white-space: nowrap"} kann man einfacher ohne Bemühung des Cosinus-Satzes bekommen: Verdoppelt man das Dreieck BAK, ist es schlicht die Definition des Cosinus.
Man muss das Dreieck gar nicht verdoppeln. In *BAK*: __cos 45° = *b* / *a*__.
Das eingesetzt: __*r*² = *b*² + *x*² + 2*bx* cos 45°__{: style="white-space: nowrap"} = __*b*² + *x*² + 2*b*²*x* / *a*__{: style="white-space: nowrap"}
Mit __*b*² = ½*a*²__ erhält man ebenfalls: __*r*² = *b*² + *x*² + 2 · ½*a*²*x* / *a*__{: style="white-space: nowrap"} = __*b*² + *x*² + *ax*__{: style="white-space: nowrap"}
