Aber der IE hat ein absolut unseriöses Verhalten wenn es um 'em' geht.

AFAIK war das ein Problem mit dem IE 3, der em immer als 1pt interpretiert.
Allerdings ist beim IE 3 die CSS-Implementation so gnadenlos schlecht, dass
allgemein empfohlen wird, dieses Feature ganz abzuschalten.

Da steht:
