a.an:before { attr(name); }

das ist natürlich Blödsinn - es fehlt das 'content:' (wie Andras ja richtig geschrieben hat), außerdem wäre ein Leerzeichen dahinter nicht falsch:
a.an:before { content:attr(name)' '; }
