Tabelle formatieren?

Hallo,

Ich möchte gerne, dass mein Text in der Tabelle eine gewisse Breite vom Rand entfernt ist. So zwei cm. Also <td .......  > Könnt Ihr mir sagen, wie man das mit CSS macht. ?

Vom Rand vom was?
Und von welchem Rand: links, rechts, oben unten?

Rand vom TD: td { padding:2cm;}
Linker Rand vom TD: td { padding-left:2cm; }

PS: cm ist ziemlich irre für Bildschirmdarstellung.
