Leider kann ich es mit MSIE 5.0.2614.3500 auf Windows 98 nicht bestätigen. Gehe ich richtig in der Annahme, dass du z.B. a {background-color:gray; padding-left:10px;} meinst, welches z.B. durch margin:0; ergänzt wird, damit das padding funktioniert?
ich kann's leider bei einem stinknormalen textlink mit padding-left:1em und margin:0 auch nicht nachvollziehen.
