Komischerweise haben - zumindest bei mir - Veränderungen an der "opacity" keinerlei Auswirkungen (weder im Firefox noch im IE)...aber wurscht, die passt eh ganz gut. ;-)
Firefox versteht die opacity-Eigenschaft erst ab Version 1.5; vorher hatte sie noch den -moz-Präfix. Der IE versteht diese Eigenschaft gar nicht.
