wenn ich allerdings float herausnehme bricht die navigation wieder um.
Du redest vom float für die LI? Natürlich "bricht" es dann um, weil LI Blockelemente sind.
Du könntest sie mit display:inline formatieren - allerdings kannst du ihnen dann keine Breite zuweisen.
