Ein kleiner Nachtrag für alle, die sich wundern, dass sie unter Windows 2000, XP und folgende keine FAT32-Partitionen größer als 32GB erstellen können (die Hilfe sagt nur, dass es nicht ginge, aber nicht, warum): Microsoft selbst verrät im Knowledge-Base-Artikel Limitations of FAT32 File System:
You cannot format a volume larger than 32 GB in size using the FAT32 file system in Windows 2000. […] This behavior is by design. If you need to create a volume larger than 32 GB, use the NTFS file system instead.
Aber ganz so abwärtsinkompatibel wollte man dann doch nicht sein (alleine schon wegen der ganzen USB-Sticks und MP3-Playern:
The Windows 2000 FastFAT driver can mount and support volumes larger than 32 GB that use the FAT32 file system (subject to the other limits), but you cannot create one using the Format tool.
In einem anderen KB-Artikel Limitations of the FAT32 File System in Windows XP heißt es außerdem ein wenig süffisant:
If you need to format a volume that is larger than 32 GB, use the NTFS file system to format it. Another option is to start from a Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk and use the Format tool included on the disk.
Ich weiß schon, warum mir solch defekte Software nicht auf den Computer kommt.
