der 3er unterstützt auch als einziger die CSS3 pseude klasse / selektor

Nicht ganz. Opera 9.5 und Konqueror haben schon vor Webkit den CSS3-Selektor-Test bestanden, zu dem auch :first-of-type gehört.
dumm ist nur, wenn die anderen browser mit der CSS3 unterstützung nachziehen wars das mit dem hack :-(
