Aber Tabellen sind da für... tabellarische Daten. Nicht für's Layouten.

Wo steht, daß Tabellen nicht fürs Layout benutzt werden "dürfen"?

Laut W3C: http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/tables.html

"The HTML table model allows authors to arrange data -- text, preformatted text, images, links, forms, form fields, other tables, etc. -- into rows and columns of cells."

Siehst du das Wörtchen "images"?
