BG-Image außerhalb der Grenzen des DIVs verschieben

Hab folgendes probiert:

.sub_navigation:before{
width:50px;
height:12px;
/display:block;/
background: url(/images/layout/submenuarrow.png) no-repeat;
}

Hat ja auch keinerlei Inhalt.
