Ok, schon klar. Aber warum href=""? Was bewirkt das?

Ich dachte es wäre offensichtlich, das ein href-Attribut gewöhnlicherweise bewirkt.

Der HTML5-Entwurf beschreibt das folgendermaßen:

The destination of the link(s) is given by the href attribute, which must be present and must contain a valid non-empty URL potentially surrounded by spaces.
