Hallo,

Das klingt mal gut: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-39675.html
<zitat>

  1. download the installer from
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html;
  2. install headers and source for the 2.6.12 kernel;
    3*) remove /usr/bin/gcc (link)
  3. install gcc-3.4, which is what my kernel (k7) was compiled against;
    5*) sudo ln -s /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc-3.4
  4. reboot to a root, CLI login if you've set your system up for that, which I'm guessing few do. (Comment out the entry in /etc/X11/default-display-manager and see if that works for you.) I suppose an alternative might be to CTRL+ALT+F2 to get to a console, although I haven't tried that, You 'sudo init 3' or 'sudo init 2' to kill X. All X stuff needs to be shut down before the installer will work right, so you might need to run 'killall gdm' or 'killall kdm' depending on what you use.
  5. 'cd' to /home/mydir/Desktop or wherever you downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-version-pkg1.run file
    8 ) chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-version-pkg1.run
    * ) See below if you don't want to fool around with the symlinks in steps 3 and 5
  6. sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-version.run
  7. the installer will bail if it can't compile, or let you know if your source or header files can't be found. (There is a workaround for that in the README.txt file below, which is also on the nvidia download page above.)
  8. if the module installed correctly, you'll be told.
  9. Modify the xorg.conf file per the README.txt file in /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0, which gets installed during the process
  10. Since I might want to uninstall or update, i made an nvidia directory in /home/mydir/nvidia, moved the installer file there and ran 'sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7667-pkg1.run --extract-only'. This will extract, among other things, the executable 'nvidia-installer'. See that README.txt file above for details
    </zitat>

Gruß,
Severin
