Die Challenger ist - kurz gesagt - abgestürzt, weil ein Dichtungsring
spröde wurde, als er Kälte (Flüssigem Sauerstoff z.B.) ausgesetzt war.
Die für die Explosion verantwortliche Kälte bei der Challenger war witterungsbedingt. Es war an dem Tag einfach eiskalt. Flüssiger Sauerstoff ist bei Raketen zwar auch sehr häufig mit im Spiel, aber nicht in den Feststoff-Boostern des Shuttles drin.
