Ich tippe auf eine Vererbung von :link zu :hover, sodass :hover mit fonz-size:0.9em das 0.9em von :link noch einmal verkleinert,

Das dürfte aber nicht passieren. Aus http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/syndata.html#length-units:

| The 'em' unit is equal to the computed value of the 'font-size' property of
| the element on which it is used. The exception is when 'em' occurs in the
| value of the 'font-size' property itself, in which case it refers to the
| font size of the parent element.

Es darf also keine solche Vererbung stattfinden, da :link und :hover Pseudoklassen und keine Pseudoelemente sind und somit das Elternelement von a:hover nie a:link sein kann.

aber dies findet anscheinend in keinem Browser (Opera 5.12, 6.06, 7.10, Phoenix 0.5, Mozilla 1.4, MSIE 6) statt...

Was auch richtig so ist.
